Managing Grey Ribbon Issues

The Silent Expanded Statement
continue   >>>

A silent expanded statement that underlies the grey ribbon follows:

You have treated me with unwarranted disrespect, either by clear statements or indirect behavioral messages that cannot be reasonably interpreted any other way. So, it has become reasonable for me to conclude that you regard me with disrespect on certain levels that I don't believe to be warranted or fair.

You have declined or avoided invitations to resolve the issues of such unwarranted disrespect through mutually respectful discussion. So I will acquiesce to (accept) your choice to avoid such discussion.

Meanwhile, while I interact with you socially and pleasantly in other ways (when and if that is the case), you are wrong (or would be) to interpret that to mean things you don't want to discuss, are, therefore, resolved by displacement and avoidance.

Trust between us has been impacted negatively. The choice not to fix that leaves trust damaged. So, it is not reasonable for you to expect otherwise, just because we were or are being polite and friendly.

If you like, we can still get along, on a more superficial basis within adjusted limits, without discussing this at all, if that is your preference.

However, I believe that all of the issues between us are entirely resolvable, through respectful conversations giving rise to appropriate acknowledgements and mutually agreeable adjustments for a better relationship in the future.

That would be my preference, but I have no right to force that on you. So if accepting your avoidance is the only option you afford me, I will adjust, in our relationship, accordingly.
